Reviewed for Big Boss Games by: JLR Here's an obscure, but excellent game that not too many people have heard about, Echo Night: Beyond for the PS2. The premise is simple, you are on a trip to the moon with your fiance. Sounds good, right? Then you crash, and end up the only survivor. It's now up to you to find out the who, what, when, where, and why? The game is played from a first person view, and graphically really sets the mood very well. It is a very atmospheric title, and you really feel like you're there. Your quest for answers will find you coming across many ghosts, some good, some not so good. Without giving too much away, I'll end on this note, don't let this one slip under your game radar. It's a really, really good game. Score: 8/10
FROM SOFTWARE's Echo Night series is a great set of games. Echo Night: Beyond on the PS2 is the third installment, following Echo Night (for PSone) and Echo Night 2 (which was released only in Japan). FROM SOFTWARE also made the King's Field series, Shadow Tower, the recently released Demon's Souls and several other gems. If you've ever played their games, you've probably noticed a trend. They like to focus on story and substance over graphics and easy gameplay. By comparison to their other games, the Echo Night games are pretty easy. Still, they are the best games they've made. Echo Night: Beyond has four endings, and they're all very good. I play a ton of "survival-horror" games, but the Echo Night games stand out. Like another reviewer said, Beyond is definitely worth a play.
ECHO NIGHT BEYOND, is a survival-horror game, and I collect horror games and other media and memorabilia. I love the first-person perspective of the game the most. That said, the game was largely boring (nearly every objective was yet another fetch-quest). I may eventually buy a brand-new copy...
A great game full of suspense, may not be for the simple casual gamer but a must for those that seek scary or suspenseful games.
This is definitely what I would expect from an agetec game. The concept and story are both very unique and the gameplay, while a little stiff really seam well into the story. Do NOT expect too much action from this game since...well, your on the moon by yourself.
